Catch Up Premium 2020-21

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, pupils have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education across the country. The impact on the education and the wellbeing of pupils who are most vulnerable as well as those from disadvantaged backgrounds is most significant.

The government is providing schools with a catch up premium during to mitigate the effects of the disruption caused by the Corona virus pandemic.

Allocation of Funds

Though funding has been calculated on a per pupil basis, schools are able to use the sum available as a single total from which to prioritise support according to pupils’ needs. Schools therefore have the flexibility to allocate funds in accordance with the requirements of their cohort. The aim of the catch up premium is to support students to catch up for lost learning during the spring and summer terms and to meet curriculum expectations.
This is a working document and funds will be allocated in response to the changing needs of our pupils and developments in the GCSE examinations during 2022/3.

Accountability and Monitoring

School leaders are accountable for how the catch up premium is used in the same way as all government funding. They must be able to demonstrate how expenditure is succeeding in closing gaps in pupils’ learning and helping staff to deliver a normal curriculm as quickly as possible.

Governors are responsible for holding schools to account for educational performance. They therefore have a role in considering the school’s approach to the catch up premium to ensure funds are allocated appropriately and in line with their catch up priorities. They should also ensure transparency for parents.
