A Message for Y6 Students/Parents and Carers

Welcome to Hummersknott – we are so glad you are joining our school in September.

Mrs Rayner, our Assistant Principal, has visited the primary schools to talk to the students about the transition days in June and to answer any questions they may have.  It was also an opportunity for her to speak to the teachers, so we could learn as much as possible about the students coming to us in September.

All admissions packs have been handed out and the deadline to return completed forms to Hummersknott is Friday 16th June.

Finally, we have three transition days on the 28th – 30th June where our year 6 students have an opportunity to spend time in school; trying out the lessons, meeting the teachers and of course trying school dinners!  We also have open evenings in July where we invite parents and carers to meet their child’s Form Mentor and College Manager.

We hope that year 6 students are feeling excited about coming to Hummersknott, but we also recognise that they might be feeling nervous too about coming to secondary school.  We are here to make the transition as smooth as possible and to support the students and their families now and into the future.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Year 6 Transition Days, Parents’ Evening, School Uniform and Locker Payments

We are delighted that you have chosen Hummersknott Academy for your child.  We look forward to working with you and your child to ensure that the next five years are successful and rewarding.

Transition Days

Your child is invited to attend the Academy for three days on Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th June 2023.

Arriving to school

  • Children should arrive at Hummersknott in time for an 8.30am start and will leave at 3.10pm on the day of their visits.
  • They should enter the site and make their way to the Main Hall via the side entrance. Staff will be on duty in high vis jackets and will help direct them.
  • Staff and Student Leaders will be on hand to help your child.
  • Children who will be travelling by school bus to Hummersknott in September, will be sent a temporary bus pass to use for the transition days (if you have completed the relevant application form). This will tell them where to catch the bus and at what time.

What does your child need to bring to school?

    • Please bring £7.50 for lunch to cover all 3 days – to be handed in on Wednesday 28th June to Form Mentor (unless your child wishes to bring a packed lunch or is entitled to free school meals).
    • Children are expected to wear their primary school uniform and bring with them a pencil case and perhaps a small bag.
    • We also advise children to bring a water bottle, there will be opportunities to refill these throughout the day.

What happens on the transition visit?

      • Your child will find out which College they are in and spend the days in school meeting with their Form Mentor and College Manager, sampling some lessons and meeting their new classmates from other Primary Schools.

      Parents’ Evening

You and your child are invited to an introductory Parents’ Evening, depending on the College your child has been allocated, the date for the evenings are as follows:

Cuthbert and Ketton: Tuesday 4th July at 6.00pm
Quaker, Stephenson and Wyvern: Wednesday 5th July at 6.00pm

The evening will begin with a short address by Mr Merifield, Head of School, followed by an opportunity to meet your child’s Form Mentor and College Manager to share information and ensure a smooth start in September.

Ties £4 and badges £3 will be available in the courtyard from 5.00pm – card payment only.

Our new PE kit supplier will also be in the courtyard from 5.00pm with lots of samples for Y6 to try on for sizing. Orders can be placed with Total Sport from 19th July.

Should you require any further information or if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s movement to Hummersknott, please feel free to contact the Academy on the above telephone number or email [email protected].
