For Parents and Carers

In this section, we have gathered information that parents and carers ask us about most frequently – like MyChildAtSchool, exam information and even what your child will be having for lunch. We have also added a list below of the most frequently asked questions for you.

My child is late

School starts at 8.30am. All students are expected to arrive on time at the Academy, ready for lessons. Students are expected to be at their form rooms by 8.25am ready to start learning. The gates to the Academy will be locked at 8.30am.

Any student arriving late must sign in via the Quaker Entrance/Dining Hall where an Assistant Principal will be present from 8.30am-9.00am. After 9.00am, students must enter the Academy via Main Reception and sign in there.

We would be grateful for your support in ensuring that your child arrives on time.

My child is absent

To inform the Academy of any absence please contact the Attendance Office:

  • by telephone on 01325 241191, Option 1. The telephone system allows callers to leave a message 24 hours a day.
  • by email directly to the Attendance Team – [email protected]

Please give your child’s name, form/year group, the reason for the absence and how long you expect the absence to last. We ask that you contact us each day that your child is absent unless you have given us an indication of how long the absence will last.

My child has a medical/dental appointment

We ask that you make routine medical and other appointments out of school time, where possible. If this is not possible, we require notification in advance. Please telephone, email or provide a note from home alongside any appointment letter (if already received from your doctor) or alternatively a simple dated slip from your GP to confirm the appointment.

In most cases, your child should attend the Academy before the appointment and return to the Academy afterwards wherever possible. They should bring a note from home to Reception when it is time for them to sign out. They should sign back in at Reception on their return.

My child needs time off – Leave of Absence

Leave of absence during term time will not be granted unless there are exceptional circumstances. Application forms should be collected and returned to the Attendance Office or an email sent to [email protected]. For more information please see the attendance section of the website.

My child has lost something

Your child should ask at Student Reception to see if it has been handed in.  All property should be marked with your child’s full name.

My child forgets their PE Kit or essential equipment

Please encourage your child to apologise to their subject teacher before the lesson and find out how they can rectify the problem.

My child is being bullied or you know someone who is

Contact your child’s Form Mentor or College Manager ASAP.

My child does not feel well

If in form or lesson, your child must inform their teacher that they are unwell. If it is at break or lunchtime, they must report to a member of staff on duty. Staff will then request for a First Aider to come and assess them. If your child is too unwell to remain in school, you will be contacted by the Academy.

My child has to take medication

If your child is required to take any medication, including Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, during school time then you will need to complete a form available from Reception. This form must be completed and returned with the medication, which is to be kept in the Main Office. Please note, prescribed medication must be in the original container as dispensed by the pharmacy and must be clearly labelled with your child’s name. The school will not give your child medicine unless you complete and sign the form to give your consent.

The Academy has a policy that staff can administer medicine, however, staff will only administer medication from the second dose onwards.  Your child must have taken his/her first dose prior to attending school (in case of reaction to medication).

The Academy will only administer antibiotics if they are to be taken 4 times a day (1 dose will be administered in school, the other 3 must be administered at home).

My child does not have the correct uniform

Please write a note for your child’s Form Mentor so they can issue a day pass for incorrect uniform.
